This weekend has consumed itself with fun toys for boys. It's amazing how certain things/events can bring the toughest men back to their boy like happiness. I'm sure every woman has seen it in their own husband. Those things that make him 'giddy'.
On Friday John won tickets to the MONSTER TRUCK RALLY being held here in Boone. Boone itself, with all its rural commodities, has many that fall prey to the 'you might be a redneck' jokes. Knowing that, you won't be the least bit surprised that Appalachian State University was peppered with many that I might say had never attended an event at the Holmes Covocation Center until last night. They even brought the 'yunguns' out with their NASCAR earmuffs to protect their precious little ears. Watching the people was more entertainment than the show itself. ASU college students were the most entertaining as many fraternities and sororities found it quite amusing to dress as the 'stereotypical git-r-done' crowd. I might say that it was more than hilarious! Jenny and Adam joined us for the evening and I must say she and I enjoyed the festivities just as much as the boys! Being teachers in this redneck county, we saw many of our own students and had many a laugh as the night progressed.
On Saturday John decided to cut down the dead trees in our front yard. Every man has a little bit of a piro in him. Boys love fire! I really thought he was going to burn the trees down that he didn't cut with the chainsaw. Jarrett and Justin, who graciously came over to help, were just as enthrawled by the flames that were caused by burning a Christmas tree. Of course on wasn't enough so they even collected the neighbors tree out of their woods. It's amazing how many are wired for adventure--no matter what their age is.
